How we make money
Last updated: 24 April 2026
Most comparison sites hide their economics behind a wall of “recommended providers.” We're going to tell you ours.
What we charge and who pays it
- Solar and battery installer referrals: when you request quotes through Big Aus, we receive a fee from the installer we connect you with — typically $110 to $160per exclusive, accepted lead. “Exclusive” means one installer, not three. “Accepted” means the installer confirms you're a real person genuinely looking for a quote.
- Mortgage broker referrals (once our property tools ship): brokers pay us when a referred enquiry results in a settled home loan. Amounts vary by broker.
- Product affiliate commissions on specific home-energy products (batteries, inverters, EV chargers): typically a small percentage of the sale price, paid by the retailer.
What we don't do
- We don't sell the same enquiry to three different installers and pocket three fees. That's the industry-standard model, and it's why Australians distrust comparison sites.
- We don't accept payment to move a product, installer or broker up our rankings. If the best answer is “a competitor we earn nothing from,” we'll still surface it.
- We don't promote products that don't qualify for the rebates we write about just because they pay higher commissions.
- We don't use “sponsored result” placements disguised as editorial recommendations.
Why this matters for the content you read
Every number on a Big Aus page — rebate amounts, payback years, comparison tables — is derived from public data (Clean Energy Regulator, DCCEEW, state scheme sites, retailer price feeds). We publish the methodology so you can check our working.
If you ever find a number we've got wrong, or a comparison that's tilted toward a higher-paying partner, email hello@bigaus.com. We'll correct it publicly.
What happens if you don't click our referral links
Nothing. The content on every page is written the same way whether or not you click “Get Quotes.” We'd rather you make a good decision and come back than burn the trust for a single fee.
