Big Aus

About Big Aus

Big Aus publishes research, tools and guides for the decisions Australians actually make: solar, batteries, property, home energy, and the bigger consumer choices where the answer is rarely the one a comparison site serves up.

Why another comparison site?

Most Australian comparison sites run on the same business model: capture your details, sell the same enquiry to three different installers or brokers, and optimise ranking by which advertiser pays the most. It's why iSelect was fined $8.5M by the ACCC for misleading energy comparisons, and why the category has a trust problem.

We think there's space for a different approach: exclusive referrals, transparent methodology, and content written with one goal — help you make a decision you won't regret, whether or not we earn a fee.

What we publish

Editorial standards

One rule sits above everything else here: we don't publish a number we can't source. Every rebate figure, tax bracket, deeming factor and calculator output traces to a primary source — the Clean Energy Regulator, DCCEEW, the ATO, state revenue offices, budget.gov.au. Where a figure is uncertain, contested in early reporting, or not yet legislated, we say so explicitly rather than pick the confident-sounding version. Several pages carry a dedicated “what we couldn't confirm” section for exactly this reason. The methodology page documents the formulas and constants behind the calculators.

Independence

Big Aus is independently owned and solo-operated, with no outside investors and no advertiser influence over editorial. It's built by a founder with a background shipping B2B SaaS and consumer web products. There is no sales team setting the content agenda, and no commercial partner has approval rights over what we publish. Commission arrangements (where they exist) never change a ranking or a recommendation — and we'll always tell you, at the point it's relevant, exactly what we earn.

Corrections

We get things wrong sometimes, and rules change constantly. If you spot an error or an out-of-date figure, email hello@bigaus.com. Substantive corrections are made promptly with the change noted on the relevant page. We'd rather be corrected than be confidently wrong — that is the entire point of the project.

How we make money

See the dedicated How We Make Money page. Short version: exclusive installer and broker referral fees, no lead-sale roulette, no sponsored results dressed as recommendations. For media enquiries and citation guidance see the press page.
